Alice's Journal - May 2026

Alice's Journal - May 2026
Jul 6, 20262 min read

I'm working on location again, this time on a movie set in Australia, where I'm the guardian of the leading actor's skin. I love this type of work so much, and the sunshine and gorgeous food have been phenomenal, but of course, being away from home can still be challenging. I miss my family, my dog Mable, and my usual routines, but I've been travelling for work for so many years, I feel like now I've finally cracked the code on how to keep my mind and skin healthy no matter where I am.

This month, I've been…

Loving: Lymphatic Drainage Massages

I had an incredible massage on one of my days off out here, and it really reminded me that there is nothing quite like lymphatic drainage. Not only does it help to reduce swelling and floating, but it's also great at helping your body to flush out toxins. When I don't have time to book a treatment, I'll create a little skin ritual in my hotel room using facial cups and gua sha. It keeps my skin feeling lovely and plump, and the act of using the tools is always so grounding to me.

Leaving: Chlorine Out Of My Water!

I found the tap water in Brisbane to be extremely chlorinated, which can cause my hair to go frizzy, my skin to dry out, and make me more prone to perioral dermatitis flare-ups. One of my top tips for healthier travel is to always bring a shower filter with you. I chose one that can be screwed onto any hotel showerhead, and I can feel the difference in my skin immediately. It's less angry and irritated and feels soothed after a shower, as it should be.

Learning: The Importance Of Little Rituals

When I'm away from home for long periods, I find it grounding to create mini rituals for myself. Sometimes coming back to a lifeless hotel room after a long day can feel like a downer, especially when the time difference means no one at home is awake to FaceTime, but by lighting a candle, taking some restorative breaths, and carving out time for a Kyūshi skin ritual, I feel like I'm coming back to myself, and the stresses of the day melt away.

Leaning On: Cleanse & Protect

When I'm done on set, the first thing I reach for is the Cleanse & Protect cleansing oil. Filming days are often incredibly long, and by the time I get back to my hotel, I can feel the grime of the day quite literally sticking to my face. The cleansing oil is my go-to because it just melts away absolutely everything. The natural ingredients get to work breaking down pollution and dirt, but the grounding scent gets to work calming my mind, too. It's the perfect signal to my body that the day is done, and allows my mind to really begin to unwind.
