Skin Loving Vanilla Milkshake Recipe
Rustle up this delicious milkshake which has all the hidden benefits of a smoothie. I'm not going to lie i'm not a massive fan of a smoothie but when I made this I was blown away by how much it tasted like a dessert! Its seriously good, to the point where if you needed a replacement for ice cream, cream or yoghurt this really could fit the bill. If like me you want to get more nuts into your diet, (think of them as an internal moisturizer for your skin - the oilier the better) but snacking on a handful of nuts doesn't fill you with joy this is a great way to get them in.
This milkshake is full of amazing fats crucial for your body to repair and regenerate, the perfect post workout drink. Some interesting information on Maca : people in the Andes have grown maca for thousands of years. They use the root as a food supplement as well as a traditional medicine for everything from fertility problems to fragile bones and poor memory. Maca is an adaptogenic plant, which means it gives your body the ability to adapt to or resist what's going on in and around it, like anxiety, stress, and depression and bring balance to the body.
A small number of studies have suggested that maca may help ease hot flushes and other peri and menopausal symptoms in women. 🙌 It has high levels of iron and iodine to promote healthy cells and to help keep your metabolism on track. Its big doses of potassium help digestion and make muscles happy. Maca is also rich in calcium, amino acids, vitamins, and minerals.
By the very nature of an adaptogen it creates in the body what you need at the time, maca can be both energising and help you get to sleep, which I know sounds crazy but maca helps melatonin regulation (your sleep hormone) so consumed at the end of the day can help you get a restful sleep. Its one of my favourite cupboard staples and I love that it is dual use, a morning pick me up without a caffiene crash and perfect in a bedtime hot cacao. To fully align your routine, pop some Orange & Neroli Face oil on in the morning, and Jasmine Lavender Cedarwood Face Oil on a night your body will be getting all the amazing messages to either spring into action or nestle down for a restorative sleep.
Play around with flavours and combinations dont be afraid to swap things in and out if you want to. (mine was super thick and I left it that way and ate it like a yoghurt! To make it thinner add more liquid.)
