The Kyūshi 5 Pillars of Skin Health
Welcome to the 5 Kyushi Pillars of Skin Health. Once a month I do a deep dive into these 5 areas which covers all aspects of mind body and spirit. I refer back to the Kyushi circle of Life click here to download it and use for your own journey. This month we cover one of my favourite clean eyeshadow brand, my book of the month, an amazing recipe and more…
What We Use
This week I had a photo shoot for Kyūshi (possibly the thing I hate the most - it’s very strange being in front of the camera when you’re used to being very much behind it. Anyway I had the most amazing photographer who put me completely at ease. I’m not normally an eyeshadow wearer but some extra natural definition does help when having your photo taken and I thought ooo I should share my favourite brand with you. Recently so many of you have come to me with eczema on the eyelids it’s really common, it’s a high movement area but a common unknown culprit is talc hidden in eyeshadows. When I was building my new kit I wanted a cleaner brand that still packed a great pigment punch. Nothing worse than a wishy washy eyeshadow. I discovered this beautiful small brand called prisma palettes and I’ve never turned back, the pigment delivery mirrors brands like M.A.C as does the colour choice, they last so well. As with any eyeshadow for longevity and to avoid creasing especially if you’re a more oily skin type pop on an eyelid primer, I like the ilia one let it dry then move onto your eye shadow. It also removes beautifully with the Kyūshi cleansing oil, which is safe to use around the eyes to dissolve eye makeup.
Mind Nourishment
This month I’ve started listening to an amazing book that was recommended to me by my friend and mentor of my holistic therapies really. We can all get stuck in this mindset of not being good enough or not feeling worthy of something be it success, love, financial freedom. When really we’re worthy of it all so if like me you can spiral into this negative thought pattern this is a great book to help you to start to unlearn that behaviour and get you on the road to feeling your best most confident self.
Movement & Energy Flow
Cleansing your space
Before seeinh my clients for 1-1 treatments I will always cleanse the treatment room space, something 10 years ago I definitely thought was woo woo. Since studying and learning more about quantum physics it makes so much sense to me. I wanted to share a few things I do just in case you wanted to try them in your home, it’s a lovely ritual to cleanse your house, especially if it’s new to clear any negative energy or just stagnant energy. The bedroom is a wonderful place to cleanse regularly too. Do you have a family member or friend who has really heavy energy and you feel a bit zapped of energy when you’ve seen them, you can also cleanse yourself. I have been known to cleanse my partner when he had been around heavy energy so he didn’t bring it into the house and into my space. It’s a sacred ritual brought to us by shamans & indigenous people the world over and should be deeply respected as a powerful process.
Let’s begin:
Palo Santo - sustainably sourced - I buy from the colourful dot. You very simply light it with a match then blow it out so it still smoulders and use this to mindfully cleanse your space this is also known as smudging you can add a mantra or blessing. For example in a new home your intention could be : I open this space to divine love, may all the energy that flows through here benefit the heart space. May it hold compassion, nurturance, forgiveness, and truth. - Koa Mikaelah
Or to bring productivity
I call in the divine abundance of creativity [or inspiration, productivity, etc.]. May the [project, artwork, contract, etc.] I feel within my heart come to fruition in a form that benefits my highest good. May it be manifested into the form that best expresses its truth. - Koa Mikaelah
You can also use sage, dried flowers like lavender. Or a bundle of all of them which look so beautiful too. When smudging carry your chosen item around over a small dish to catch anything that drops and this also allows you to put it out when you’re done.
Physical Nourishment
For my crumpet loving gluten and lactose intolerant lovelies. This week I made gluten free, dairy free crumpets 🙌🙌. Now I’m not going to lie it was a labour of love. But golly gosh they were delicious, I got some silicone crumpet/egg rings to use rather than metal ones. Link to the recipe I used below, I made a few alterations, cook them lower and slower than suggested, I didn’t use chia as the oil in chia seeds can become unstable when heated, I used biona coconut milk, the almond flour I had in the cupboard and removed the sweetener (personal preference) and be sure to pop them in the toaster them after you’ve cooked them to get that lovely toasted top. Enjoy! Let me know how you get on lovelies.
How we exist in the world
I read this amazing article a few weeks ago in stylist magazine, Having spoken to so many people who were worried about their bodies coming out of lockdown, this was a really great read. I also saw something recently that said please be kind to yourself, your body survived through a pandemic, it is amazing. Which is so true. Anyway here’s the link:
