Mindful Shopping

It seems that as time goes on every event calls for a sale, the big companies now use earth day, summer solstice, black friday, cyber Monday, boxing day, new years day and many more all to slash prices and get people spending. Don’t get me wrong its a great time to buy a TV if yours has broken but it creates a frenzy of unconscious consumerism. We now live in a time of quick fixes, quick purchases and speedy delivery and it’s now an expectation.

Amazon prime day has sparked a conversation within the small business community, so how do we feel about it?

Amazon is the home to large and small companies, its an easy impersonal one click service with quick delivery. There’s a company I use a lot called Indigo Herbs so I’ll use them as an example, I found them on Amazon whilst searching for organic adaptogens for the Kyushi green tea and cacao recipes and initially bought on amazon, which is all a ok I’m not judging at all. The next time I bought I scrolled down found the mother company and popped along to their website and bought directly from them. What this does is it cuts out the middle man and allows them to take 100% of their profits which I enjoy. Some small businesses exist purely on Amazon but I would urge you to scroll down look at the company and see if they have their own website and buy directly from them.

The profit margins of smaller independent businesses are normally so much smaller than the big companies so we have much less wiggle room for sales, especially in the skincare small batch world we never need to get rid of stock so every time we do, do a sale it really is a gift of thanks from us and normally one reserved for our community.

There is a real danger of companies like Amazon swallowing up small independent businesses, imagine a high street only full of department stores, if like me you love browsing cute little independent stores by shopping mindfully online we can create a virtual high street where there is space for department stores and small shops.

Here are a few reasons I would love you to consider shopping small:

🤍Small businesses have the mindset of waahoo someone bought something I created how amazing is that (cue happy dance) 3 years in & I still get excited at each and every order that one of you place and I’m so so grateful.

🤍We care deeply about our customers, we go above and beyond to make your experience amazing, we stay up late replying to emails, giving advice and doing everything we can to help you reach your goals because we love you and love our communities.

🤍We encourage conscious mindful shopping, if we can make a smaller impact on the planet we will, if you don’t see it yet we’re back here trying to figure it out.

🤍Our supply chains are thoughtfully considered and full of positive energy caring for humans & animals throughout.

These are just a few things, so before browsing Amazon and clicking buy, have a little look to see if the company sells independently and have a look at your local small businesses, and small businesses across the country and support us if you can it’s been a tough year and every little really helps, that includes telling your friends, sharing our posts and generally being our cheerleaders too 🤍

Sending love and gratitude always,

Alice 🤍
