How Your Home Environment Can Affect Your Skin Health

Welcome to the Kyushi pillars, each week I discuss the areas of holistic wellness I believe to be crucial in getting glowing healthy skin from the inside out. (Alongside some great products of course) Lets begin…

How We Exist in the World

As we work our way around the circle of Life (Link below to download and join in) this week we land on our home environment. If you’re one of the lucky ones your home should feel like a space of safety, calm and tranquility (most days) and anything you can do to make that more of a reality is great. When I first work with clients as a health coach, I run through a few stages, the first is detoxing your home environment. Theres so many little changes you can make to lower the toxin burden on your body. Simple things like taking your shoes off and placing coats and bags by the front door. Regular cleaning with natural cleaning products, you can even make them yourself, opening the windows daily to get some free flowing oxygen in, and placing a sturdy oxygenating house plant in your bedroom and living spaces - my favourite is a snake plant - Im yet to love one too much and kill it.

The Products We Use

Candles are a beautiful way to invoke the energy you want to create in your home. Here at Kyushi not only did I want to create high performance skincare connecting the mind and body with aromatherapy but I wanted to create a full emerging experience. The next logical step was a Candle, I loved the idea that you could elongate the feeling of calm you experience when massaging your Jasmine Lavender & Cedarwood Face Oil into your skin by lighting a candle and filling the room with the same scent, transporting you to a space of tranquility. How many of you have lit a candle and suddenly felt a headache appear, perhaps you’ve put down ta long stressful day, or the glass of wine or maybe you didn’t drink enough that day. As someone that has always loved a beautiful candle I did the same thing, then realising I was sensitive to ‘Parfum’ or artificial fragrance oils which can be made of various chemical compounds that cause unwelcome reactions within the human body. I switched to 100% essential oil candles and what a huge difference It made. No more headaches, and I know some of my customers have noticed the same. Environmentally conscious in their production, kind to your health and your mind the Kyushi candles are getting rave reviews namely that the scent fills the space immediately, the crackle of the unusual wooden wick is so soothing and comforting and it burns for 60+ hours which is a really long time in candle world.

Available in two scents: Orange and Neroli to uplift, energise and put a spring in your step, channel creativity and transport you to a summer evening. Jasmine, Lavender and Cederwood to send you into deep relaxation the scent of a luxurious spa melting any worries away.

Movement & Energy Flow

Spring has sprung, is anyone else spring cleaning? Personally tidiness doesn’t come naturally to me. Have you ever been to an unorganised spa? Me either. Spas are designed to create a sense of serenity, where the calm energy can freely flow. Thats not just through the beautiful treatments but through the lighting, layout, smells sounds and a fluffy clean white robe. Its an emersive experience to let your body and mind know its safe to relax, wind down. So you do. There is usually a strong use of natural materials like wood and stone, immersing us into the feeling of being in nature even though we may be in the middle of a busy city.

I know we cant start changing lighting and putting fireplaces, loungers and jacuzzis in right now, but we can be mindful of our environment. My advice is start small.

Lets begin in the bedroom. Self care and relaxation starts the night before, if you can clear your mind and get a good 8 hours sleep youre automatically setting yourself up for success (if you have young children you can of course ignore me and my hat goes off to you)

Lie on your bed and look around, does it feel peaceful and calm? or is there a pile of washing in the corner, clothes thrown on a chair (i'm not judging at all I am this person - so I know first hand how much of a difference this can make) If you suffer with anxiety or depression walking up to a cluttered space can make your symptoms worse, cluttered space, cluttered mind.

List 5 easy things you can do, to make your space more relaxing.

Heres mine:

  • Bring a plant upstairs to my room and place in the corner so i can see it when I wake.

  • Tidy bedside table and put things on at that bring me joy

  • Put away clean clothes

  • Put Makeup and skincare in the drawer or organise so it looks neat and tidy

  • Take my giant pile of books downstairs and just leave a couple next to my bed

What are yours? Id love to know?

Physical Nourishment

One of my favourite kitchen hacks to make sure I’ve got nutrient dense seeds on hand to sprinkle on salads, veggies, stir frys - everything and anything basically. Rather than having to get out lots of different packets from the back of the cupboard, I have a medium kilner jar full of a mix of activated sunflower & pumpkin seeds, and hemp seeds. You can add in any that you like, chia seeds are best consumed hydrated as they are better utilised by the body this way. You could also create a nut jar too to sprinkle over porridge etc. Eating habits are usually formed through making them as easy as possible, just having some easy to grab options makes you 100% more likely to do it. You can turn a simple meal into a power house of nutrients in a couple of tablespoons sprinkled skin loving seeds and nuts on top.

Mind Nourishment

During my Crystal Sonic training this week we were taught a beautiful practice to calm the mind and become present. Simply close down the eyes with the intention to become at one with yourself, then focus on the feeling of the cold air entering the nose filling the lungs, feeling the belly rise and feel the now warm air leaving the nose. By placing your attention on this simple movement of breath the mind has a moment to pause, and become still, engaging the parasympathetic nervous system where your body does all of its regenerating.

Have a go tonight when you get into bed.

Sending Love
