Self Love
It’s that time of year. Love is in the air. Whether you love or hate valentines day, lets use it as an excuse to spend a whole week looking after ourselves, allowing a moment to listen to our minds and our bodies in a hope we can start to punctuate every day with moments of self love.
As Oscar Wilde once said, “to love oneself is the beginning of a lifelong romance”.
It’s not selfish it’s 100% necessary for your health and wellbeing, if that means locking yourself in the bathroom, putting your headphones in and going for a walk or simply closing your eyes while the kettle boils and focusing on your breath. Self Love is so subjective and I would love for you to take some time, perhaps with a notebook, put aside what you perceive your limitations are and write down all the things you consider self love or self care for you, they can be big or small.
Tomorrow you can start the Free Kyushi Self Love Week by signing up here. Id love to see you there.
Here are some ideas to get you started:
Using positive self-talk (Those negative Nelly comments will of course creep in, simply say thank you and good bye, and replace with a direct positive comment. If those comments keep flowing try saying the positive words out loud, you can even record them. Theres something very powerful about hearing yourself speak your positivity)
Setting boundaries with people – Fill your life with people that fill you up, bring you joy and raise your vibration.
Trusting your gut instincts – Your gut really does often know best, sometimes the head and heart throws you a curve ball.
Make time for some lovely rest and self-care
Get Creative
Celebrating your successes – we’re so busy in our lives sometimes we forget to pause and celebrate our wins.
Rolling with your failures – Allow a moment to be sad that things didn’t go to plan, but how can you learn, what has it taught you and what will you do differently next time?
Speaking to yourself as if you were a friend – The hardest but one of the most important.
I found this while I was researching and loved it:
The Ancient Greeks practiced self care long before millennials made it into a multi-billion dollar industry. The Greek word for self care is “philautia” which translates most closely to ‘self love’ or ‘love of self.’ The ancient Greeks believed that when philautia was practiced appropriately (in a balanced and non-narcissistic way) it provided the foundation upon which all other love could be built. They believed that self care was a way to make people more honest citizens who would care for others. The more you love yourself, the more you could love others. As Aristotle put it, “all friendly feelings for others are an extension of man’s feelings for himself.” – mycpid.com
I’d recommend starting with a lovely bubble bath, a great book, a beautiful candle and of course your face being nourished by Kyushi Jasmine Lavender & Cedarwood facial oil to really transport your mind and body to a place of pure relaxation.
